How to turn a hobby into a small business is a successful story of Danko Smiljanic from Uzice. Danko, who was unemployed for a long time, was making toys and other objects of wood which was bringing him some profit mainly through his friends and acquaintances who were familiar with his work.
Since the question of employment was still uncertain, he turned to his hobby in which he invested a lot of effort and work. He realized that his hobby could become something more serious or even a small business. What he needed for more efficient work were better-quality machines than those he owned. The solution to his problem he saw in HELP donation where he sent his business idea. Soon after receiving the equipment in the form of a lathe for wood, which enabled him to work faster and easier, he started to be seriously engaged in this activity and opened his own workshop "EKO-ERO" in Dautovac, near to Uzice.
After first few months of work he gained a significant profit. Besides the donation,
HELP provided him with the training for marketing and sale so that he could apply the acquired knowledge in his further work. His future plans are focused on the purchase of new machines which would enable him to broaden the scope of his products and offer them to a broader market.

December 2006
Danko presented his products on HELP stand at the 5th International Entrepreneurship Fair for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises – Business Base at the Belgrade fair
