Project is implemented by HELP in partnership with local NGO’s EDEAS from Bujanovac and ENECA from Nis.

Summary: The programme focuses on the educational and economic support to local development in south Serbia.  The components of the programme will lead to the direct job creation (at least 300 registered employees) and will improve the clients’ future social, cultural and professional life. In brief the results will be the following:

1. Support to start up businesses (provision of 287 grants)
2. Business and vocational trainings (at least 287 business and 80 vocational trainings)
3. Development of at  least 6 cooperatives (at least 40 members)
4. Pilot initiative- development of small businesses dealing with recycling (waste management), 20 entrepreneurs
5. Other networking activities (study visits, fair visits/participation and other)

Assistance to the private sector development will be exclusively provided within the frame of the existing local development strategies.

The overall objective of the programme is to contribute to the sustainable development in Serbia with the main focus on the empowerment of the local economic structures in the targeted municipalities.

The specific objective of the intervention – educational and economic support to local development in south Serbia, direct job creation through in kind grant support, business training, professional/vocational education, development of cooperatives, new initiatives related to the waste management small businesses and other networking activities (fairs, study visits etc).

1. Entrepreneurship development

Description: The main goal of the project is job creation through support to start-up or development of existing micro-business. The beneficiaries will be supported through the provision of in-kind grants and trainings which will facilitate the initial steps in business activities and provide better chance for success. The allocated assistance will be distributed utterly in the form of equipment or material, the average amount of one grant is fixed on approximately 2000 EUR, in dinar counter value, business trainings in accordance with the clients’ requirements, as well as business counseling, there will be no cash disbursements.

The programme is intended to economically vulnerable local populations who have sound business ideas for starting or development of individual economic activities, which will provide them with regular income.

The selection of beneficiaries is being realized through several phases, according to the series of social and economic criteria. Social vulnerability of applicant is necessary but not sufficient condition for obtaining help. Important criteria are also: economic viability, market potential of business idea, the professional ability of the candidate, work experience and the fact that business idea is in line with the principles of environment protection.

Programme will include in total 13 entrepreneurs from the City of Kragujevac.

The client’s obligations are:
• to register its activity prior to equipment / material distribution;
• to attend one-day orientation training organized by HELP;
• to repay 20% of the total value of donated equipment / material;

Current activities:

The second selection of applicants is successfully finished. In cooperation with the local partners the list of final clients is completed. The next step is signing of Grant contract with the final clients and organizing of one-day business trainings.
